SCUOLA MOSAICISTI DEL FRIULI
Founded in 1922, Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli is a school with two core objectives: to teach and promote the art of mosaic making.
This is a craft with roots stretching far back into the past and the sound of hammers, hardies and blocks still rings out in the school’s mosaic and terrazzo workshops. Traditional sensibilities and know-how are complemented by new input from artists and designers. Ever since the 16th century, master mosaic makers have set off from western Friuli and made their mark all over the world. For instance, take the decorations in the Library of Congress in Washington and those at the Paris Opera.
Against this backdrop, in its teaching and production activities Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli works on prominent international projects, studying and putting into practice Roman, Byzantine, modern and contemporary mosaic techniques. Thanks to research, experimentation and cutting-edge, innovative technology, the ancient art of mosaic making can cater to today’s formal and expressive tastes and needs.
