Sauris lies at more than 1,200 metres above sea level and is known as Zahre in the local German dialect.
The natural environment has been preserved by the people and it laid the foundations for Wolf Sauris.
Since time immemorial, many families in Sauris have made truly exceptional smoked prosciutto and sausages. Pietro Schneider was a highly proficient pork butcher whose many secrets were passed down through the generations to his grandson Giuseppe Petris, the founder of the Wolf Sauris prosciutto factory.
Today, artisan expertise is complemented by cutting-edge techniques.
In 2010, Prosciutto di Sauris was awarded PGI status.
