When Azienda Agricola Carusone Sandra opened in 2012, it was a simple onion-growing operation, but it subsequently expanded its range to include other traditional local products from Friuli Venezia Giulia, such as Frico and Polenta.
In 2019 Sandra’s young daughters Marica and Sasha joined the business, so that they could help their mother and give the company a shot in the arm. They began the move into organic and biodynamic agriculture, making plans for orchards and vineyards on their hillside land in Mas, near Cavasso Nuovo.

Who is Sandra Carusone?
Sandra is a Friulian wife and mother. Passionate about traditions, she’s the mainstay of her family, which consists of no fewer than four children, a dog and also two grandchildren.
Sandra loves the land all around her home, which her husband’s family has been farming for generations, passing down the seeds for the famous Red Onions of Cavasso Nuovo.
As her children grew up, her home started to get a little emptier, so she decided to embark on a new venture. After all, the people of Friuli are renowned for keeping busy and especially for working hard. In 2012, she opened Azienda Agricola Carusone Sandra. She started out growing onions, but almost immediately expanded her range to include other products.
